Author's Note:
This is a poem about things I was thinking about and that just happened to rhyme. I am focusing on voice.
Tigers eating
Lions pouncing
Jumping on beds
Not jumping, bouncing
Running outside
Playing some tag
Pledge of allegiance
To the American flag
Cartwheels on the subway
Handstands at the park
Skipping around your house
When it's finally dark
Swimming in the summer
Skiing in winter
Climbing trees in fall
Careful, don't get a splinter
Drawing in Paris
Romancing in Spain
Buy worldly products
Like African grain
Around the world
In eighty days
Fly to the clouds
Shoot up into space
Slide into sweats
Pull back your hair
Go have some fun
Go to a fair
Skip through bad weather
Dive into grass
Don't break your arm
Don't get a cast
Shop with your friends
Gossip about nothing
Listen to music
Now honey that's something
Talk with a twang
Just for a day
You can be Texan
You'll find something to say
Be a martian
Maybe from mars
Shoot for the moon
Land on the stars
Click a pen in you hand
Write in a journal
Eat some popcorn
Even the kernels
Lick ice-cream cones
Sink your teeth into ice
Eat something hot
Like jalapeno spice
Duct tape your mouth
Don't say a word
Soar up in the sky
Just like a bird
Smile ear to ear
Don't frown just smile
Walk to China
It might take a while
Wear crazy clothes
And socks and a shirt
Then get them all dirty
While playing in dirt
Get shocked by a fence
Feel it rush right through you
You might not like it
Or maybe, do you?
Post it the world
Wrap it together
Make it more colorful
Just like a feather
Do something weird
Like fall from a tree
Don't hit the ground
Don't scrape your knee
Make your room sparkle
Hang cups from the ceiling
It will look better
Cooler, apealing
Play a game with a neighbor
Hey look you won
Turn around in a glance
The poof it's all gone
